A Question of Sport

What happened next?

It’s always fun to do different things in life, so when we got an invitation to a Question of Sport evening at Mercedes-Benz in Cheltenham, it was all rather exciting.

Sporting gods

The great and the good of the sporting world in Gloucestershire (and our CEO Oli Christie) gathered at their showroom for a night of sporting quiziness.

Two top charities

It was all in aid of two brilliant charities - the Gloucestershire Air Ambulance and the JT McNamara fund (he is a jockey who very sadly was paralysed following a fall at a race at Cheltenham).

Go Gloucester

There were about 15 tables with teams of eight people including Gloucester Rugby Club and Gloucestershire Cricket Club. It was all very organised with keypads to enter your answers and a big screen for the pictures and video clips and questions.

Och aye tha noo

Oli was thrust onto a table of people he had never met in his life, all of whom were very nice local Scottish businessmen - Oli hoped they were better at sport trivia that their nation was at rugby and football (joke!!).

Sporting royalty

And then at the last minute, the organisers put a large man next to Oli to help the team. And he was a chap called Mike Tindall, who plays a bit of rugby for Gloucester, won the Rugby World Cup and used to be England captain. A very similar sporting pedigree to Oli...

Live from the BBC

Our hostess with the mostest was the BBC’s Jill Douglas, who we had last seen presenting Neon Play with our Best Small Business gong at the Gloucestershire Business Awards. It was fingers on your buzzers time and the questions came thick and fast.

Close finish

After each round, we got a scores on the doors update and would you believe it, we were ahead after rounds one and two. Things got a bit tight in the last round and we got a few wrong, so it was going to be a photo finish.

As Jill read out the winners, there cheers and jeers that rang out as our table had indeed scooped the prestigious and very shiny trophy. Here's Oli and Mr Tindall with the silverware.

Rent a quote

Oli Christie, CEO of Neon Play, fresh from a victorious evening commented, "What a cracking night out it was and a big thanks to Paul Simpson for putting on a great night. It was a lot of fun, with some truly testing questions and ultimately a much-deserved victory! Let's hope we can repeat the success next year...!"
