Match of the day?!

They think it's all over...

Trip to Cirencester FC

2013 is a year for first times, so we headed to Cirencester’s 4,500 capacity Corinium Stadium to cheer on our local football team. Arriving to a fairly wet, muddy but still green pitch we grabbed a program and began to learn the squad’s starting 11.

Kick off!

As any true football fan knows, you find a good spot behind the oppositions goalie and try to put him off. At Neon Play we are fans of fair play, so we settled for Yate’s corner flag instead.

The first half got of to a speedy start, men running all over the place and a rather wet ball spending most of it’s time being lofted from one goal to the other, like a strange game of tennis.

Yate won an early corner, this is when we learnt the ref had got out of the wrong side of bed that cold Saturday morning. A light bit of shirt pulling in the box and his whistle blew, penalty! Ball heads right, goalie dives left, goal! 1-0.

The referee's a...very nice man

Cirencester weren’t going to give up easily! A poor late tackle from Yates defence, whistle blows. This is when we learnt the ref had got out of the right side of bed, Cirencester get a penalty! Yate’s goalie saves it.

It’s almost halftime, Cirencester free kick, 30 yards, GOAL!! 1-1.

Half time passed with us filling up on crisps, chips and booze.

‘If they had scored again, it would have been a draw.’

The ref started the second half and within 5 minutes Yate had scored their second, 2-1. Our legs couldn't take the tension, so we found a good spot in the stands and huddled together for warmth.

Cirencester did their best to soldier on, giving all they could, not even our clapping and chants helped. With three sharp blasts on the whistle, it was all over, Yate took the 3 points and headed home victorious.

All in all it was a fun way to spend our Saturday afternoon and it won’t be long before we’re back cheering on our mighty reds! A bit like Man Utd, but just worse.
